I was at church this weekend. No surprises there! One of the aspects of the celebration was a blessing for a couple who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
I thought 50 years was just about impossible let alone 60. And they still seem to have a couple more years in them!
A simple lesson in commitment, and a challenge to all of the rest of married couple out there, it can be done!
The understanding that your life is not what it should be AND the courage to do something about it!

FIghting Fit
My sons and I embarked on a rather ambitious adventure last night. Although, I must admit it was only I that found it ambitious. My sons think they have discovered utopia!
We went off to the local Judoka in order to join our first Judo class together. The boys absolutely loved it, almost 2 hours of exercises, fighting, wresting, and loads of incredible throws.
It has been more than 23 years since I last set foot on a Judo mat. Some things came back to me, things that had been ingrained in my being from the many years of my youth spent practising this art. Then, I was pretty good at Judo. Last night though, I was well and truly humbled!
I did discover that my fitness level is fantastic and I still have loads of my flexibility. This morning my body aches and I have some most spectacular bruises to show for my effort.
My wife is more than a little concerned... I feel challenged!

New Business
Today is another exciting day. It has taken forever to get here, but here we are!
My new partner and I sit today to discuss our new business. The thing about our business is that we have a very different mindset. We intend to do what we can to create a business that has real values. Some of them go without saying like ethics (driven from deep Christian values), honesty, integrity, and fairness.
Others will be things that many companies out there talk about but never nail down. One of my previous employers used to talk about people all the time and yet this was just talk. Our challenge is to make sure that staff feel really valued and that their work adds a significant dimension to their lives. Integrating family life and time is something that we both feel strongly about. Another challenge is to incorporate our social aims and desires into the workplace, i.e. giving back to our communities and putting charity into action.
Real business has scant regard for this stuff. They are all optional extras! I believe there must be a way to build a sustainable business that really cares for its people and those less fortunate whilst turning a profit. That my dear friends is of course the key. If you want massive profits, there is no way that one can afford to focus on real values.
There is an old adage, ‘if you are not in business for profit or pleasure, get out!’ Our choice is to make our profit through adding incredible value to the lives of all of those that will be associated with this organisation. Perhaps it is time that profit was more than just cold hard cash.
Time will tell if we can make it work...

What do you spend most of your day talking about? Is it the weather or crime or clothes or idiots on the road? Do you have shallow conversations about just general stuff, you know small talk? Or do you have deep meaningful conversations about general stuff, like love and peace and parenthood and faith?
Does the stuff you talk about make you think? Do you walk away after conversations thinking about how your discussion changed your opinion, your mind, your paradigm? Do you go and do something different as a result of that conversation? Do you have a similar conversation with somebody else as you marvel at your new insights and thoughts?
Does life make sense to you? Is the meaning of your life clear? Are you on the path that you want to be on? Are you happy? Do you want more? Do you want less? Are you fulfilled? Do you share your insights with others? Do you make a difference?
Will you have a conversation today that is deep and challenging? Can you inspire somebody to think? Do you think if we all think more, we may do things differently? And if we do things differently, is it possible that we may get different outcomes? Can you do it?
